The Road to FitnessByKSR
Before becoming a personal trainer, I served as a Police Officer for three years, and a PCSO for two years before that. I made the difficult decision at the end of 2022 to leave the police after struggling with my Mental health (work-related stress, and trauma from incidents I attended). Leaving the Police was daunting, as I always knew from a young age, that my role was to help others and I thought this was the right career path for me so it was extremely hard to put that dream aside. After being at such a low point, I looked to the gym to try and set my mind on goals to keep me focused. I trained consistently at the gym, improving my fitness, stamina, health and wellbeing. My love for fitness, and learning different techniques continued to grow more and more, and I felt that there was an opportunity for me, and I began to become hopeful for the future.
This is when I made the decision to train to be a Personal Trainer.
Personal training allows me to help others, in a way which not only benefits my own mental health by seeing others succeed but my clients too. With my current client base, as a team, we’ve been able to achieve selective goals (toning, building muscle), track their progression, and adapt methods to achieve the best results. I’ve been part of their journey from the start, helping them lose weight, gain muscle, and build strength, with one journey even leading to a pregnancy.
My client base ranges from 12 to 56, all with different abilities/strengths. As a result of this, I adapt their sessions to suit their needs, and any issues they have, preventing injury whilst creating results.
Some clients require a methodical and gentle approach, and others require pressure and intensity.
Using my skill set from the police, and working alongside individuals with Learning Difficulties (ADHD, Autism, Dyspraxia) has been beneficial to my training, as I am able to access and understand my client’s needs, making sure that they know within themselves that nothing can hold them back. I’m also a strong advocate of Mental Health, after being diagnosed with depression/anxiety, and understand how important fitness can be for an individual's mindset and wellbeing. Every day/gym session is not going to be a great day, and even myself has the occasional bad day - it’s so important for me to be able to recognise when my client is struggling in this way, helping them take the time out to communicate their feelings and assess what support they need.
I hope my clients not only consider me as their personal trainer but also as someone they can confide in.
